In the heart of Atlanta, Georgia, the Georgia Institute of Technology stands as an icon of innovation, opportunity and success. Founded in 1885, Georgia Tech has become a global leader in technology and engineering, as well as a role model in accessibility through technology programs. Not only that, but Georgia Tech prioritizes mental health among its students so that they can succeed in anything they set their eyes on. Originally, Georgia Tech started as a business school in 1885. It has since evolved into the prestigious research university it is today, and over the decades, it has retained its commitment to delivering quality education and preparing students beyond academia.
Georgia Tech’s Tech Programs.
Georgia Tech ensures that students have access to the tools they need to thrive in their school work, highlighting the importance of digital literacy by offering a variety of technology programs to students. The Office of Information Technology (OIT) offers equipment support to anyone at GT, whether that is students, faculty, staff or researchers. Thet do so through the Technology Equipment Loan program created during the infamous Covid-19 pandemic. Through the program, GT community members can request Windows 10 laptops and AT&T hotspots for their academic or work needs, and accessing the program is made easy by going to their academic continuity resource section. Laptops are equipped with software like Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat DC and more often used tools which can be borrowed for any time period the student needs it for. However, OIT encourages students to return equipment they no longer need so that they constantly have available stock for others. Additionally, the university offers different online courses and degree programs, making education accessible to learners off-campus.

Mental Health at Georgia Tech.
College life can be overwhelming and scary, especially with academic pressures and personal challenges. To address this, Georgia Tech offers comprehensive mental health support services and apply the concept of “upstream.” This innovative approach focuses on the prevention of problems, instead of just the solution. They do so by implementing safety-net wellness initiatives and offering “adulting” classes for students to learn important real-life skills such as finance management. Georgia Tech also understands that mental well-being is affected by different areas of life, including personal, academic, social, and professional. They have registered dietitians on staff, helping students not only have a healthy relationship with their body image, but also learn how to eat healthy to stay healthy. The Body Positive Program, VOICE for sexual violence prevention and survivor support are other initiatives that Georgia Tech provides their student with to take care of anything and everything that they could need.
Fun events like pet therapy, where students can let go of stress by playing with puppies, tweekly markets and gatherings make the day to day at Georgia Tech exciting for students. The Stamps Health Services, which provides health care and education to students and their partners, the Wellness Empowerment Center, dedicated to creating and offering programs and services that incentivize the GT community to enjoy a healthy lifestyle, and the Center for Mental Health Care & Resources, are different ways in which Georgia Tech works towards one very important goal: the well-being of their students.
