Have you ever been to Melbourne? No, not in Australia. Melbourne, Florida. If not, you really should. This beautiful city is home to the Florida Institute of Technology, an academic powerhouse in all things innovation and futuristic. Founded in 1958 by Dr. Jerome P. Keuper, Florida Tech is now a prestigious institution that fosters academic brilliance and technological advancement. If you are interested in anything tech related, Florida Tech is for you. Throughout its campus you will find state-of-the-art facilities that not only allow students but encourage them to go above and beyond in their projects and research. And if that’s not enough to spark your curiosity, Florida Tech is located on Florida’s Space Coast and has their own student-run podcast station: Panther Radio!
The Florida Institute of Technology and Its Programs
Anyone passionate for technology can find something to suit their interests at Florida Tech. They pride themselves in offering a vast array of programs, including rocket science (literally!), biomedical science, cybersecurity, oceanography and much more. However, one of the best things about Florida Tech is you get to learn hands-on. Through partnerships with industry leaders, students have access to experiential learning opportunities like no other, where they can gain practical insights and develop skills crucial for their future careers. You can find more of their programs here.
Tech Lending Programs
We have already established that Florida Tech is a technology-focused institution, so it makes sense that students need to have access to technology. Technology can be a difficulty for many, and it has the possibility of becoming a barrier for those that can’t access it. Florida Tech knows this. That is why they offer lending services at their Evans Library. Students, faculty and staff can have access to the devices they need to continue their projects and research. Because of the variety of programs the school offers, Florida Tech’s tech devices offer is wide. At Evans Library students can find anything from power adapters, cables and chargers, to laptops, ipads, mouse pads… In fact, the offer is so complete that they also have study essentials such as calculators, headphones and modeling kits; cameras and camera accessories; presentation equipment; virtual reality devices such as de Oculus Go, Rift and Quest; and external drives. In other words, anything you could possibly need.
Keep in mind that the tech lending program includes certain policies that students must adhere to to avoid issues. Loan periods vary depending on the device you are loaning, so make sure you respect that. If equipment is lost, damaged or stolen, you will be responsible for covering the cost. While the tech offer is generous and vast, you need to remember that you are not the owner of the devices and can not keep them indefinitely.
Mental Health Matters at Florida Tech
Your mental health is a big deal. That is why Florida Tech focuses on looking after students’ well-being. The university houses a dedicated student counseling center that offers several support services. Their Student Counseling Center counts on a dedicated care team, varied services and free online screenings. Their mission is to empower student success through their health and wellness services.
The CARE Team at Florida Tech aims to promote the safety and well-being of the university’s community The Students Wellness Team strives for making the university an institution that follows the 8 dimensions of wellness, that is emotional, physical, occupational, social, spiritual, intellectual, environmental, and financial.
Networking as a Panther
Once a Panther, always a Panther. Florida Tech isn’t just about academics, it’s a community that takes pride in its network. Connections are encouraged from freshman year and way into alumni life. Through the Alumni Directory, alumni can easily connect with fellow Panthers in their area. The university fosters engagement through alumni gatherings, job boards, mentorship programs, and exclusive deals around the world. Professional growth is made easy at Florida Tech. The university organizes career fairs for students to meet alumni and learn about their possible future career paths.
Florida Tech has created an Alumni Directory, where you can find Florida Tech Alumni Contacts in your area. If you want to become a Regional Alumni Contact, you can reach out to their Alumni Office. All Alumni Contacts are expected to encourage gatherings aimed to promote networking, get-togethers, sporting events and more.
Florida Tech is a launchpad for networking, and it just keeps giving! They organize virtual and in-person networking events that are sent based on geographic location, making sure you are invited to events you can attend. The Florida Tech Magazine is published three times a year and helps all Panthers (or aspiring Panthers) stay updated with everything and anything Florida Tech.
Shocked? We know. Best part is it is not too good to be true, and it keeps getting better. Students and alumni can enjoy access to the Career Services, where you can search job listings, participate in resume reviews, career fairs and workshops, and much more.
Panthers, come one come all.
Florida Tech is not just another university, it’s a welcoming environment, a vibrant ecosystem where technology meets humanity, where innovation intertwines with mental wellness, and where networking prepares you for a lifetime of success. At this school, it’s not just about learning. It’s about growing into someone amazing, confident, and who’s not afraid to dream big and make those dreams happen. So, if Florida Tech calls your name, you should probably listen!
