University of Maryland

The University of Maryland Laptop Lending Program aims to offer portable computers to AAP students who lack their own PCs or laptops for university projects. These laptops come pre-configured with University software, including Windows Vista Home Basic or Windows XP Professional with SP2, Office 2007 Professional or Office 2003 Professional, McAfee Antivirus, and MSN Live Messenger.

All eligible SSS/McNair scholars must consult with the Program Associate Director to borrow a laptop.

Georgia Institute of Technology

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) offers equipment support to Georgia Tech students, faculty, researchers, and staff through the Technology Equipment Loan program. This program, created during the Covid-19 pandemic, allows Georgia Tech community members to request loaner laptops and hotspots for academic or work needs. You can access the program on services.gatech.edu in the academic continuity resource section.

You can request Windows 10 laptops and AT&T hotspots. These laptops come with software like Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat DC, Google Chrome, Firefox, and other commonly used tools either licensed by the Institute or freely available. The equipment meets or exceeds Georgia Tech’s recommended technology specifications for students (sco.gatech.edu/hardware-requirements/).

There’s no specific maximum loan period, but OIT encourages users to return equipment they no longer need or when leaving the Institute.
